to increase our efforts to be heard by political decision-
makers on all levels in topics as mentioned hereabove, we
must also continue to attract young people, by showing
that being an engineer is not only about having a good job
and a good income. It is about making a difference, about
making the world better every day.
Is the engineering profession up to the task? Well,
engineers are already pretty good in solving technical
problems. Nevertheless, we must get accustomed to
including non-technical perspectives into our problem-
solving approaches. To that end, engineering education
will have to be adapted to enable future engineers to
cope with the upcoming societal challenges. Teaching and
learning contents will have to change to include aspects
like interdisciplinarity and dialogue skills, digital business
models and data literacy to a larger proportion.
And FEANI? FEANI has started a change process at the
General Assembly in Vienna in 2017. The member organi-
zations have decided to follow the idea to further develop
