message the delegates took home was that society’s needs and well-being are intrinsically linked to the progress in engineering and technology. Engineers must rise and shoulder this responsibility, and the world’s leaders must fully engage the engineering community in addressing the complex challenges of our world.
The year 2016 is destined to be the Year of the Engineer throughout Switzerland due to the opening of the 57 km long Gotthard Railway Base Tunnel (http://www.gottardo2016. ch/en). This event in June is grounds for the engineering community in Switzerland to be proud of its accomplish- ments and a prime occasion to celebrate engineering as a path of study and career for young people. 
